Project Description:

The Meghna-Dhonagoda Irrigation Project (MDIP) Impact study aims to assess the hydro-morphological, socio-economic, and environmental impacts associated with the development and operation of the project, with particular focus on the construction and performance of embankments along the Meghna River. The study evaluates pre- and post-project conditions to determine the effectiveness of the interventions in improving flood control, irrigation efficiency, agricultural productivity, and local livelihoods.

Services Provided:

• Prepared a baseline for the pre-project scenario, identification of the indicators for performance evaluation, and evaluation of the performance for constructing embankment for Meghna Dhonagoda Irrigation Project (MDIP) from hydro-morphological, socio-economic, and environmental perspectives;
• Identified and analyzed the impacts of constructing the embankment of MDIP on the opposite side of the river bank;
• Assessed the morphological changes of the Meghna River for the implementation of MDIP using a readily available mathematical model and satellite images;
• Identified, quantified,and evaluated the socio-economic benefits, potential environmental consequences, and impacts before & after implementation of the project;

Assessed the contribution of implementing the project to the GDP of Bangladesh.
