Project Description:

APM Terminals has initiated the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed Laldia Container Terminal (LCT) at Chattogram, Bangladesh, with the objective of ensuring compliance with national regulations and international good practice while supporting thedevelopment of a modern, efficient, and climate-resilient port facility. This inception reportoutlines the Consultant’s approach, methodology, and program for the EIA, reflecting therequirements of the Department of Environment (DoE), the Scope of Work set out in Volume B, and international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards and World Bank Group EHS Guidelines. The Laldia Container Terminal is a flagship greenfield development that is expected to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of Bangladesh’s trade infrastructure, and the EIA represents a critical step towards securing environmental clearance and ensuring that the project proceeds on a sustainable foundation.

 

 

 

Services Provided:

  • Project Inception & Scoping: Preparation of inception report, HSSE plan, stakeholder database, risk register, QA/QC plan.
  • Regulatory Applications:   Prepared         and submitted Site Clearance Application, Initial Environmental Examination (IEE), and final Environmental Clearance Certificate application to DOE.
  • Specialist Studies: Conducted seven specialist studies:
  1. River Hydrology & Hydraulics (review of HR Wallingford outputs).
  2. Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation.
  3. Baseline Assessment of soil, groundwater, river water, and sediments.
  4. Livelihoods & Vulnerability Assessment of         affected communities.
  5. Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services Assessment.
  6. Social Impact Assessment (SIA).
  7. Community/Environmental Noise & Vibration Assessment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Organized scoping meetings, focus groups, KIIs, and public meetings (Townhall + Open Day).
